JFIF to JPG Converter

Turn .jfif files into .jpg without touching the image data. The pixels are copied across byte for byte, so nothing is re-compressed and no quality is lost.

What is a JFIF file?

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format, and that name gives the game away: a .jfif file is a JPEG. Same compression, same internal structure, same bytes a .jpg would contain. The only difference is the three letters after the dot. Windows started handing out this extension when you save an image from Chrome or Edge, which is why so many people suddenly have files their photo software, their printer, or an upload form quietly refuses to open.

Why rename instead of convert?

Because there is nothing to convert. Most online "JFIF converters" decode your image and re-encode it as a fresh JPEG, which throws away quality for no reason — JPEG is lossy, so every re-encode costs you detail you cannot get back. This tool copies the original file through untouched and changes only the name.

Zero quality loss — the image data is copied byte for byte, not re-compressed
Instant, because nothing has to be decoded or encoded
Your EXIF data, colour profile and orientation survive intact
Runs in your browser, so the file never gets uploaded anywhere

How to convert JFIF to JPG

Drop the files in and download them back with the right extension. Batches are fine.

1

Drag your .jfif files onto the box above, or click to browse for them

2

Check that the preview looks like the image you expected

3

Press the button — this takes a moment because no re-encoding happens

4

Download the .jpg files individually, or grab the whole batch as a ZIP

JFIF to JPG FAQ

No. This tool does not re-encode anything — it copies the original JPEG data across unchanged and only alters the filename. The output is byte-for-byte identical to what you put in. That matters because JPEG is a lossy format: every genuine re-encode discards a little more detail, and tools that decode and re-save your image cost you quality for a problem that was never about the pixels.
Yes, and you will get exactly the same result. On Windows you need to make file extensions visible first (View, then tick "File name extensions" in Explorer), then change .jfif to .jpg. This page exists because that is fiddly on phones, awkward for a folder full of files, and impossible if your system hides extensions and will not let you edit them. If renaming one file by hand is easy for you, do that instead — you are not missing out on anything.
It comes down to a Windows registry entry that maps the image/jpeg MIME type to the .jfif extension. Chrome and Edge ask Windows what extension to use for a JPEG, Windows answers ".jfif", and that is what lands in your Downloads folder. It is a quirk of the operating system rather than anything wrong with the browser or with the image, and it can be fixed permanently by editing that registry key — though for most people it is easier to rename the occasional file than to edit the registry.
The tool checks the actual bytes at the start of each file rather than trusting the extension, and refuses anything that is not a real JPEG. This protects you from a file that was renamed to .jfif at some point but is actually a PNG or something else — handing that back to you as a .jpg would produce a file whose name lies about its contents, which tends to break in exactly the software you were trying to satisfy.
Yes, all of it. Camera settings, capture date, GPS coordinates, orientation flags and any embedded ICC colour profile are all part of the file being copied, so they arrive intact. If you would rather they did not — GPS coordinates in particular are worth thinking about before sharing a photo publicly — run the result through the EXIF Remover tool afterwards.
Yes. Add as many as you like and they will all be processed, then download them one at a time or as a single ZIP. Since no image processing is involved, a large batch finishes about as quickly as a single file.
No. Everything happens inside your browser tab using local JavaScript, and the files never travel across the network. You can confirm this by opening your browser devtools, switching to the Network panel, and watching that nothing is sent while you use the page — or simply disconnect from the internet after the page loads and see that it still works.
For everyday purposes, nothing. They are all extensions people and systems have used for the same JPEG format over the years. JPEG was shortened to JPG in the era when MS-DOS limited extensions to three characters, and that shortened form stuck. JFIF, JPE and JIF are rarer spellings of the same thing. This tool accepts all of them and gives you back the .jpg that software actually expects.
